Bath, SOM Specialty Attractions
Designed by urban architect John Wood and built in 1754, these town homes are connected together to form a semi-elliptic shape. Neoclassical in style, the facades contain Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders, similar to Rome's Coliseum.
This block of thirty fine mansions is built in the form of a half moon and considered a great example of urban architecture. The Ionic columns on high bases add to the entrancing visual effect. This block, as well as the Bath Circus, was designed by John Wood who had an interest in Roman architecture. Tours of No.1 Royal Crescent, the first house on the row, are available from mid-February until later November.
